„Abfahrt, ja Abfahrt vom trügerischen Schein des Lebens zu den wesentlichen Dingen an sich, die hinter den Erscheinungen stehen. Dies bezieht sich aber letzten Endes auf alle meine Bilder. Festzuhalten ist nur, dass „die Abfahrt" kein Tendenzstück ist und sich wohl auf alle Zeiten anwenden lässt."
